Yale University New Residence Hall

New Haven, Connecticut
Yale University

124,000 square feet

The hall has 108 two bedroom apartment suites with kitchenettes, living rooms and private bathrooms. The suites are arranged along central corridors on four floors in an apartment-style program that provides complete gender privacy within a co-educational setting, and a number of activity spaces including lounges, computer rooms, an exercise room and a common room. This program fosters community and a sense of place for students as well as the University's summer conference residents.

The design reflects our years of research into the behavior patterns of students: their need to make connections with social groups, establish independence through freedom of choice and privacy, and their desire to see others and be seen by others unselfconsciously in a non-confrontational setting
