Our design concept for the new Guangzhou Library synthesizes metaphor and function. It arranges a myriad of overlaying strands of history, human needs, and meaning into the form of a lattice-strand structure. The lattice is one of the most simple but profound structures of life. As both structure and medium it permits the flow of energy through its strands, providing predictable connection to other strands at all of its points of crossing – nexus – and exchange across strand widths – sustained at every point
