The
setting is a lovely residential neighborhood of large, early twentieth century
houses. One of these, Campbell Hall, now an admissions and administrative building
for the Greenwich Academy, has a dominant, well-proportioned, classical portico.
It anchors the remaining academic buildings, which are effectively hidden behind
brick walls.
Our work at The Greenwich Academy, a college-preparatory school for girls, involved
designing buildings to advance the school's arts and athletic programs, while
complementing its existing architecture. In doing so, we also designed a new
garden courtyard providing better overall access to the campus.
The
Athletic Center has a new double gymnasium with five squash courts, a fitness
room, and locker and shower facilities. We also expanded and renovated the existing
Ramsing Gymnasium, restoring its first floor entrance and adding a new two-level
lobby that provides entry from the garden courtyard and athletic fields. From
the lobby, viewers can look into the new gymnasium and the fields beyond.
