Biographies Joseph Schiffer received his Bachelor of Architecture from The Cooper Union School of Architecture in 1967. He joined Herbert S Newman and Partners in 1974 and became a Partner in 1990.

Mr. Schiffer has been a principal in the planning and design of many of the firm's award-winning projects including Duracell World Headquarters; The Pocantico Conference Center of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund; Yale University Art Gallery, Center for American Art; the Performing Arts Center at Greenwich Academy; Yale University School of Organization and Management, Donaldson Commons; and Wesleyan University's Freeman Athletic Center. He has collaborated closely with Herbert Newman on projects including the Scandling Student Center at Hobart and William Smith Colleges; Alfred University's College of Business and Administration; the New School for Social Research; and the Guilford Community Center.

His teaching experience includes an Assistant Professorship in Architectural Design at Paier College of Art, and Visiting Juror status at Columbia University and Cooper Union School of Architecture. His lectures and published works cover topics ranging from planning community and student centers to implementing sustainable design and construction techniques in new buildings. He is an organizer and co-presenter of Herbert S Newman and Partners' 1999 residential life symposium: Architecture in Residence: Enhancing the Quality of Residential Life.

Mr. Schiffer is registered in Connecticut. His professional memberships include American Institute of Architects (AIA) and AIA/Connecticut, National Council of Architectural Registration Board, Society for College and University Planners, and Branford Architectural Preservation Trust.
